There have been attempts top eat more than 100 oz. but these were single attempts and not ongoing challenges offered by a particular eating establishment. 80 oz. Steak Challenge, AJ's Steakhouse- Grinnell, Iowa
*Added 2/9/06 6lb Steak Challenge, Frontier Steakhouse Cattle Co.—Tampa, FL The 6lb Challenge, which translates to 96 oz is one of the most difficult steak challenges AICE has come across. Also, you must complete the potato and salad, all within 75 minutes. If you have never tried the 72 oz. Challenge you probably want to conquer that amount before giving any thought to this 6lb monster. Should you give it a go, finish the salad first, you will hate yourself in the morning if you fail to eat everything except the salad. Oh yeah, they give you 75 minutes instead of an hour—like it really matters. 6lb Steak Challenge, Chaparral Steakhouse—Orlando, FL Disney World is in Orlando, right? So is the average Joe’s thought processes (should he/she think) that they will not have to pay. You have 1 hour and 15 minutes to tackle this monster and I forgot to tell you, you have to eat the potato and salad. The good news is that the damage is only $32 compared to the $50-70 price tag of most other challenges if you lose. 64
Oz. Steak, Two sides & Potato, Reno's Roadhouse, Kentucky (various
locations) (added 3/1/05) 64oz Prime Rib and sides "Ultimate Challenge"-Omaha, Nebraska The Nebraska Beef Company offers an "ultimate challenge," a 64-ounce prime rib with sides. If your appetite isn't quite that big, though, there are lots of other beef choices at this pleasant restaurant. 4629 S. 108th St., 402 597-1084. *Thanks to Mike Nafziger of Omaha, NE for providing AICE with info about the challenge. (added 9/11/05) Steak Meal under 4:02, North Country Steakhouse/Steak Lovers Club—Cedar Rapids IA There is only one way of getting a free dinner and that is to beat the time of 4 minutes and two seconds established by a gentleman named Mike Miller. However, if you complete the dinner in less than an hour you will still have to pay $16.99 but you earn a “Steak-Lovers Club” T-shirt (with name and time) or a $16.99 Gift Certificate to the Steakhouse. Your name will also be engraved on a plaque above the entrance to their butcher shop. The website will also list your name and time. 70/72/76 oz. Steak Challenges There are some places that will offer 76 oz. With no sides vs. the traditional 70 or 72 oz. Challenge with sides; both are equally difficult. The following is a list of places gathered by the staff at CompetiveEaters.com. We know there are many more—please advise us of any you know about. 72 oz Steak Challenge-The Country Squire Resturant & Vintage Inn, Warsaw, NC This challenge differs from others in that it also requires you to eat many sides: two celery sticks, two carrot sticks, two olives, two slices of dill pickles, One regular size salad, one glass of tomato juice, all lean meat (or edible parts of steak). Ten squire's fries or one baked potato, one slice of french bread or one dinner roll, drink either One cup of coffe, one glass of milk or one cup of tea and eat one dish of ice cream or cobbler. (added 3/7/08) The Big Texan—Amarillo, TX The most famous of all the restaurants who offer the Steak challenge (perhaps the first, starting in 1960). Not only will you get the 72 oz. Monster for free but you will get a t-shirt with a registration number which will certify your accomplishment and your name listed by state of residence on their website. Also the Big Texan website has other interesting info regarding the Steak Challenge. J&R’s Steakhouse—Long Island, NY There are two locations in Long Island, New York. Both of these locations are in Eastern L. I.; Stonybrook & Rocky Point. J&R’s gets special mention because the world record of 7 minutes and 30 seconds was recently established by multi-title holder, Ed “Cookie” Jarvis at the Stonybrook location. This feat eclipsed the previous mark of 9 minutes, 30 seconds by Frank Pastore who was a pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds. Good luck trying to find a picture of a friend (or your picture) on their bulletin board. Unfortunately, all the pictures of those who were successful and those who were not (at the Stonybrook location) are all mixed together in a sea of disorganized photos. The Wall of Fame in Stonybrook does a bad job of honoring its gurgitators, whereas the "Bragging Rights" Bulletin Board in Rocky Point does a much better job of displaying their photos. 72 oz. Steak Challenge (plus all the trimmings)—Lone Star Texas Grill in Canada, several Locations: Otawa, Kingston, Toronto, Pickering. Richmond Hill, Etobicoke Other Locations for the 72 oz. Steak Challenge Ontario
Canada, Lone Star Café Saylor's Country Kitchen, Beavorton & Portland Oregon
